September is Hope and Help

During Suicide Prevention month, our goal is to remind others that there is hope and help is readily available. Suicide is an extremely complex and distressing issue that affects millions of individuals worldwide. We are here to provide resources that offer support, information and assistance to those in crisis and also those who want to help a loved one.

The following is a list of resources that are most convenient; just a call, text or click away.

A Call Away: The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24/7 crisis hotline that is reachable at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255). It provides a compassionate and confidential space for individuals in distress or those concerned about someone they know. Trained counselors are available to listen, provide emotional support, and connect individuals to local resources. In Michigan, you can dial 988 which brings you to MiCAL. MiCAL is a call center that is primarily responsible for answering 988 calls originating from Michigan.

A Text Away: For those who prefer text-based communication, the Crisis Text Line is a valuable resource. By texting “HOME” to 741741, individuals can access a network of trained crisis counselors who offer help and support via text messages. This service is available 24/7, providing immediate assistance to those in crisis.

A Click Away: The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention and supporting individuals of suicide loss. Their website offers a wealth of resources, education, and information on how to get involved in suicide prevention efforts. https://afsp.org/

In addition to national resources, there are many local mental health and crisis intervention centers that offer support and services tailored to the specific needs.

Contacting a local center can provide you with information on available resources and support options in your area.

September is Suicide Prevention Month which means it is also a month of Hope and Help. A Pathway to Joy is here to share the Hope and Help needed to support individuals who need it most. Our mission is to create a world where every individual feels valued, understood and empowered to seek help and live a life filled with hope and purpose. Please continue to join us on our journey to help others on their own Pathway to JOY.

We are happy you exist.
